Homemade Valentine Card Ideas for Kids

Making your own Valentine's Day cards for kids can save you time and money. Just a few minutes on the computer and you can have your cards printed and ready for a quick embellishment. Whether you are making cards for the whole class or just want to make a nice homemade card for little family members, these ideas are sure to bring a smile to their face!

Mustaches just seem to be getting cooler and cooler, so using the 'stache' as a Valentine's Day card idea for kids seems like a no-brainer. You can create this on a computer using a word processing program with some fancy fonts or you can draw and write it up yourself. If kids are making this for an entire class, the computer method is much easier!

1. On the card it should read: I mustache you a question; Will you be my Valentine?
2. You can decorate the card with hearts or a large face. If you use a large face you can line up the mustache with the face.
3. Cut two slits in the card so you can have the mustache on a stick attach to the card.
4. You can use a mustache on a stick that is made out of paper or you can create a chocolate mustache on a stick that is edible.
5. If you do not want to have a mustache to give everyone, you could have your child put marker on the outside of their finger and put it up to their face as a mustache and take a picture. You could put your child's picture on the card instead.

Alhtough Star Wars cards may seem geared towards boys, there are some female characters and when my son made these for his classmates last year, everyone loved getting the glow in the dark bracelets to wear.

1. You will need to buy thin glow in the dark bracelets that you put together yourself.
2. Find Star Wars character images on Google images and print them onto heavy cardstock paper.
3. Cut them out and attach an UNBROKEN and UNBENT glow in the dark bracelet to the hands of the Star Wars character. (Leave the plastic closure for the bracelet on the one end of the stick).
4. When your Valentine gets the card they can take the stick off, bend it to activate the glow and then connect it an have a bracelet with the plastic connector.

• The sugar is strong in this one
• I don't have a bad feeling about this
• You are out of this world

If you have a lot of loose Lego blocks, you can create hearts and show people that you love them to pieces!

• For each heart you will need a 2 x 2 block and 4 x 2 block, and a flat 2 x 2 and flat 4 x 2
• Place the flat pieces on a table to form a heart and then put the blocks on top so that it overlaps and makes a solid heart that you can pick up without falling apart
• Use a little tape to adhere the heart block to a piece of sturdy paper and write I (Heart) You
• You can also write things like " I love you to pieces", "Don't break my heart", or "I'll never LEGO of you"
• You can place the Valentine in little plastic bags to give away

If you are really into Legos, you can make an upcycled heart necklace with simple pieces and a necklace chain.

• You are full of sugar and spice and everything nice!
• Will you be my sweetheart?

1. Take a photo of your child and have them holding their arm out to the one side.
2. Open a word processing or photo editing software program and create a title to go over the photo (see suggestions to the right).
3. Print out the photo with title onto heavy card stock paper.
4. Place a lollipop or candy stick in their hand using glue dots or double sided tape

If you are making Valentine Cards for an entire class, adding a pencil to the card is a great idea. You can design the card however you want on the computer and then cut slits to hold the pencil in place. You can also tape pencils to the back of the card and then place all the cards in a shoebox to safely transport them to school. Here are some ideas of phrases you can use:

If your Valentine would love a little extra spending money, consider folding a dollar bill into the shape of a heart and attaching it to your homemade card.
