Football Party Decoration Ideas

These football party food and decoration ideas are simple and inexpensive. Since many football themed parties are common during the fall and winter months most of these football party decoration ideas go along with those seasons. If you are celebrating the Super Bowl, these ideas are great when you might have guests from both teams. For other football parties, these ideas can be adjusted to be neutral or team specific.

Football Decorations

Utensil Holders-Recycle aluminum cans by spray painting them brown and adding white stitching to look like footballs. Place your utensils inside for the party. (Follow the instructions for the soup can windsock but don't drill holes or use ribbon).

Coasters- Paint the lids of aluminum soup cans to match teams and use them as drink coasters.

Glass Marker Decorating-Use glass markers to draw football decorations! See photo to the right.

Soup Can Windsock- First, paint a recycled soup can brown and decorate it like a football. Second, drill 2 holes across from each other to run ribbon through to hang the wind sock. Finally, tape streamers or ribbon inside to hang down. See photos below of the finished product.

Football Party Food

Cookie Pops-If your party is in the fall, consider making Halloween themed cookie pops, otherwise coat the cookies in milk chocolate and draw a white stitch across it for football cookie pops.

Football Chocolate Strawberries- Strawberries are usually best in the spring, so if you're doing a football party during this time of the year, make football strawberries. See the instructional video below. I do recommend when melting chocolate for this or the cookies pops that you use a double boiler method or glass instead of microwaving in plastic containers.

Black Eye Punch- Make a punch and put ping pong balls that look like eyeballs in the punch bowl and let them float around. I made my punch with 2 bottles of cran-apple juice, 1 2-liter of Sprite, 1 packet of unsweetened pink lemonade kool-aid mix, 1/2 cup of sugar, and ice cubes.

Going to a Football Party? Here's What You Should Take

  • Take food! Chips, dips, desserts, and other finger foods are great items to take to a football party
  • Wear your team's colors and bring terrible towels, cheese heads, and any other item that shows your team pride
  • If it is a birthday party, take a gift. If you know the birthday person's favorite team consider making a personalized gift. The photo below shows the gift a friend of ours had made to give to us when we had our football party. If you are good at painting you could make one, too!

Goodie Bag or Craft Idea

If you are looking to give your guests something unique to take home consider foam footballs or bells that they can decorate. Acrylic craft markers are easy to use for all ages and dry quickly. Here are some other seasonal ideas:

  • Fall- Decorate pumpkins with paint markers and ribbon to look like your favorite team's logo.
  • Winter- Make fleece scarves with your favorite team colors. Consider making brown scarves and have the beads be the team colors if all the kids don't like the same team.
  • Spring-Decorate a brick to put in the garden, Prime all the bricks white before the party and then let the kids use paint markers to decorate the brick. Spray with a clear sealant and let dry thoroughly before touching. Place in a garden for decoration.
  • Summer- Make football fly swatters or get fly swatters and decorate them with foam football stickers or wrap the handles with yarn in your favorite team colors..
